Scholarship Facilitation For Merged 501(c)(3) Organizations

Atlanta, Georgia – Monday, February 5, 2024 – In keeping with the 2014 founding mission of the Alpha Rho Chapter Alumni Association (APCAA), the association today announced an administrative merger with Atlanta, Georgia-based E. David and Linda C. Ballard Foundation (EBCBF) a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit private foundation whose primary mission is to provide financial support to students with financial needs. The merger represents an advancement in the partners' shared goals which began in 2015, and now transforms into a defined partnership that is projected to lead to millions in charitable contributions from individuals and corporations in the coming years.

The merger provides for an initial $100,000 in charitable support in alignment with APCAA’s Centennial Celebration (January 5-7, 2024), and moving forward, provides for a financial pathway to additional support from assets currently under fund management at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta (CFGA).

In reference to how the merger came together, APCAA Founder & President BMaynard Scarborough (Fall 1980) pointed to shared goals, matching missions, and administrative efficiency. He added, “This merger is the logical evolution for two related organizations that both have clear visions on how to best invest in talent at Morehouse College. Together, we’re providing a financial bridge directly from the Alpha Rho alumni brotherhood to deserving students at the college.”

Today's merger announcement follows close behind a historic gathering of 505 APCAA members (62% of 810 living) in celebration of the 100th anniversary of their 1924 Charter Day. The merger also activates a new phase for volunteers who are interested in contributing the success of the association's fundraising, marketing, events, scholarship/mentorship, and archival divisions and goals.

"APCAA has shown fundraising and stewardship prowess far beyond it's ten-year tenure as it relates to building a direct link between the Alpha Rho Chapter alumni and current and future Morehouse College students who face financial challenges in their quest to complete their undergraduate studies," stated EBCBF founder Dr. E. David Ballard II (Fall 1974). "To that end, it became obvious to me that APCAA is well-positioned to manage the assets of EBCBF moving forward, and I'm grateful to now have them advance the charitable goals I first established in November 2017," Ballard added.
