OMEGA CHAPTER ALERT FOR BROTHER RALEIGH A. BRYANT, JR. -- Fall 1945
Brother Raleigh A. Bryant (Morehouse '49), who passed at age 96 on Friday, December 18, 2020, was one of seven Morehouse College undergraduates who were initiated into the Alpha Rho Chapter (#38) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in the Fall of 1945. He was a schoolmate and friend of Rev. Dr. Brother Martin Luther King, Jr. who joined the fraternity via Sigma Chapter (#17) during his graduate studies at Boston University and following his own graduation from Morehouse College in 1948.
He was most recently affiliated with the fraternity's Beta Phi Lambda Chapter.
A Savannah, Georgia native and longtime Principal in their local public school system, Brother Bryant is survived by fellow AUC grad relatives including his Spelman College sweetheart Jacqueline H. Bryant (Spelman College '49) and his granddaughter Alexis Harden who graduated during her grandparent's shared 70th reunion year in 2019. His late son Raleigh A. Bryant III also attended Morehouse College.
Brother Bryant is an Emeritus Member of the Savannah-based Frogs Club, Inc. which celebrated their 80th anniversary in 2018. He was also a Charter Member and served as the first Secretary of the Savannah, Georgia Chapter of The National Association of Guardsmen, Inc., founded in 1964.
